PROJECT SUMMARY
It was a privilege to be involved in the refurbishment of Hackney Town Hall, which is a Grade II listed building. As an Armstrong OMEGA installer we were contracted by Osborne to supply and install the bespoke anodised feature walls to the atria.
A job of this nature requires skilled craftmanship and high attention to detail. Our work in the atria consisted of an Ayrshire SFS framework, as support for the Armstrong WH-1000 panels. The bespoke anodised panels were custom perforated by laser, with butterfly folds and perforations into a pattern. This was to mimic the original walls behind, including aged brickwork, Crittall windows, drain-pipes and services.
The panels serve to conceal new ducts linked to the smoke ventilation system and feature a custom anodised light trough at the top and acoustic fleece behind the panels to absorb sound.
Following on from our high-quality installation, we were given the back of house refurbishment to complete, including the ceilings and drylining.
Hackney Town Hall won a 2018 RIBA Award (London Part 2). The judges said:
“This long-term, multi-phased conservation project is more than a refurbishment, as certain architectural moves have made significant improvements. Nowhere has any cost or effort been spared so that the refurbishment has been carried out to the very highest standards. The overall detailing is impeccable and is the most rewarding aspect of the project.â€
